The Officina Profumo-Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella – which is the brand’s official title – carries an 800 year legacy on its back. One of the oldest of its kind, the perfumery and beauty product retailer from Florence, Italy, has become and stayed known for its artisanal expertise in all things smell. This fragrance, in particular, is a tribute to Caterina de’ Medici, the famed Italian noblewoman who wed the King of France, Henry II, and reigned as one of the most influential women of her lifetime until 1589. Based on musk and patchouli, the perfume includes top notes of Italian citrus fruits and neroli, as well as middle notes of rosemary and lavender, among other ingredients. It’s a refreshing, vibrant scent with just the right tweaks and touches to not make it aggressive or overpowering.
