Three reasons these sunglasses will be your favorite summer accessory

MessyWeekend LIV Tortoise
We found a well-designed pair of sunglasses that one would feel confident wearing anywhere, made to be worn for more than one season, and at a price that isn’t going to break the bank.

Summer is upon us and so is the season of sunglasses. While the world’s favorite (in our opinion) accessory is actually incredibly useful year-round, they are obviously most associated with those hot couple of months when school’s out, the days are longer, and life just seems better. So, you may currently be on the hunt for a new pair to replace the old or to add to your collection.

As it is an accessory, design is incredibly important, in addition, of course, to quality and price. So, we did a bit of hunting ourselves, to find the perfect pair that wins in all three categories.

Walk into any fashion (or convenience) store and you’re sure to find a rack of sunglasses somewhere. Accessibility isn’t really an issue, but design, quality, and price certainly are. Often, sunglasses have two out of the three attributes. A really cool design, excellent quality, but they’ll cost you an arm and a leg. Or fine design, decent price, but the quality screams ‘temporary’. What we wanted to find was a well-designed pair of sunglasses that one would feel confident wearing anywhere, made to be worn for more than one season, and at a price that isn’t going to break the bank. Is that too much to ask for? Apparently not!

MessyWeekend is a sunglasses startup based in Copenhagen, Denmark. They have a pretty extensive line of sunglasses, but there was one pair that stood out in particular: LIV. These sunglasses are simply gorgeous. There are four different colors in its collection: Black, Pink, Tortoise, and Horn. The Black model looks so high-end and classy, and it is perfect for practically any occasion. The Pink model is bright and fun—perfect for sun! They are rectangular in their shape and slightly oversized, though not aggressively so. Design-wise, we’re big fans. So, what about quality and price?

LIV is handcrafted using high-quality acetate. There are almost 200 steps in the production of these sunglasses, a manual process that can take somewhere between six and eight weeks to complete. They are assembled using 5-barrel hinges and feature shatterproof lenses with full UV400 protection. These beautifully designed, high-quality sunglasses cost only €85 (about $142 AUD)—a price well below similar models from brands.

We’ve gone over each of our three points, but we actually discovered there is a fourth. How does the brand you choose to support look beyond business? Nowadays, there are numerous brands who are giving back in various ways to their communities and MessyWeekend is one such brand. For each product sold, they donate to their partner NGO, For The Planet, to secure the collection of 2 kilos of plastic waste from the ocean! We love a brand that goes above and beyond what is expected of them, as do most of their Trustpilot reviewers, who gave MessyWeekend 4.7 out of 5 stars. Very impressive for a small startup!
