Three reasons these sunglasses are your must-have spring accessory

Winter is finally over and so the season of sunglasses starts. Well, the traditional season of sunglasses, that is.

Of all the accessories one could own, we would argue that sunglasses are the most diverse and useful of them all. They can be worn in sunny and even overcast weather conditions (you ever notice that everything seems brighter when it’s overcast?), they go with every outfit, and they can be worn for any occasion.

Of course, this means that design is incredibly important, in addition to quality and price. So, we did a bit of hunting ourselves to find the perfect pair that wins in all three categories.

Walk into any fashion (or convenience) store and you’re sure to find a rack of sunglasses somewhere. Accessibility isn’t really an issue, but design, quality, and price certainly are. Often, sunglasses have two out of the three attributes. Cool design and excellent quality will cost you an arm and a leg. While fine design and decent price will get you a pair with the quality that screams ‘temporary’.

What we hoped to find was a well designed pair of sunglasses that one would feel confident wearing anywhere, made to be worn for more than one season, and at a price that isn’t going to break the bank. Is that too much to ask for? Apparently not!

MessyWeekend is a sunglasses startup based in Copenhagen, Denmark. They have a pretty extensive line of sunglasses, but there was one pair that stood out in particular: BILLE Amber. These sunglasses are simply gorgeous. The amber frame looks so high-end and classy! It fits the spring theme and works for practically any occasion and style. They are round in their shape and larger than other round models by MessyWeekend, though not aggressively so. Design-wise, we’re big fans. So, what about quality and price?

BILLE Amber is handcrafted using high-quality acetate. There are almost 200 steps in the production of these sunglasses, a manual process that can take somewhere between six and eight weeks to complete. The frame is thin, making it lightweight and comfortable to wear for extended periods of time and has shatterproof lenses with 100% UV400 protection. These beautifully designed, high-quality sunglasses cost only €100—a price well below similar models from brands.

We’ve gone over each of our three points, but we actually discovered there is a fourth. How does the brand you choose to support look beyond business? Nowadays, there are numerous brands who are giving back in various ways to their communities and MessyWeekend is one such brand. For each product sold, they donate to the clean up of the equivalent of 5 plastic bottles or 100 straws from our oceans, which We love a brand that goes above and beyond what is expected of them, as do most of their Trustpilot reviewers, who gave MessyWeekend 4.7 out of 5 stars. Very impressive for a small startup. If you’re interested in learning more, you can read about MessyWeekend’s Clean Oceans initiative here.
